“Olive oil is more effective than any existing medication today in preventing death or recurrent heart attacks.”
Today, we echo the conclusions of the meeting organized by the Olive Oil Interprofessional to reinforce and promote the image of olive oil as a healthy product for consumers and patients who have suffered cardiovascular accidents.
Dr. Fernando López Segura, a specialist in Internal Medicine, recommended prescribing a Mediterranean diet with olive oil to all these patients who have experienced cardiovascular accidents, arguing that “olive oil is more effective than any existing medication today in preventing death or recurrent heart attacks.”
In addition, Antonio Escribano, a professor of Sports Nutrition, discussed the numerous benefits of olive oil for athletes at this meeting, especially when intense exercise is involved. Intense physical activity can cause local inflammatory processes in certain structures of the body, such as muscles. In these cases, olive oil acts as an anti-inflammatory agent at various levels in the muscular, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems.
